Admonitio re Pepperpot:

Due to wildfires, unanticipated power outages and a crippling sense of dread there will almost certainly be stretches of radio silence here in the coming weeks.

As of this writing eight miles north of us is under an immediate evacuation order and ours may come this evening.
This afternoon the air outside looks like beef broth and smells like an ashtray. The shadows are dusty blue. The past two mornings I’ve seen a drifting skein of vultures tangling and untangling themselves against a leathery red sunrise - a muted Mandelbrot Set of birds, each vulture with a seeming infinity of tinier vultures gyring behind it.

One thing. Unlike the firestorm of 2017 we have our computers, backups, tools and papers loaded and ready to go.

Fingers crossed, please.
